Mid-summer Rejuvenation!

Courthouse Buttes
Courthouse Buttes

Hello and welcome!

Just getting back from a very picturesque stay in Sedona, Arizona, beating the heat of the desert floor, and enjoying some long-awaited rest and relaxation.

The Sedona Hilton had a great suite and the Courthouse Buttes above (named for the Romanesque pillars no doubt) was one of our views – the other being the famous Bell Rock below.

In the evening, as the sun goes down, the three pillars on the top of Bell Rock become more defined in their lengthening shadows.  We couldn’t take our eyes away as the center pillar began to resemble the face of an older Indian man.  Hmmm, I wondered.  Perhaps it is a Sinagua warrior — standing in silence and ever-vigilant — over his beautiful native land.

We also took time to visit the most spiritually-beautiful place I’ve ever been — the Chapel of the Holy Cross amazingly etched into its perch as if it had always been a part of the natural landscape.  In fact, it was constructed in 18 months at a cost of $300,000 and opened in 1956.  It was an inspiration from a local rancher/sculptor, Marguerite Brunswig Staude.  Below are some images from inside the Chapel.

Standing outside of the Chapel and looking down from the red rocks, one couldn’t help but notice some of the opulence nestled in and around Sedona.  Take a look at this, complete with its own pond:

We moved on to one of my favorite places — Tlaquepaque!  (It’s easier than it looks — Ta – La- Kee – Pa – Kee.)

Isn’t this sculpture striking in its simplicity?

And if you’re looking for a special something in jewelry, don’t miss visiting Vue (a Renee Taylor Gallery).  She has beautiful merchandise and lovely sculptures in the gardens outside, like the one below:
